Chaplain
Chaplain: The Chaplian is a priest who attends to the religious needs of condemned men. He acts as a catalyst for Meaursault on both his psychological and philosophical development. The Chaplain wanted Meursault to seek comfort in god after he murdered the arab, even though Meursault refused to see him.
How this affected the book:
The Chaplain made Meursault see the meaningless in the universe, unintentionally. The Chaplain also helped Meursault out by helping Meursault to become a stronger man.
